Overview
I probably listen to more podcasts than the average person. I do 5-10 mile walks / runs usually 4-5 times a week so it gives me time to listen to things. I also don’t listen to every episode of a podcast because let’s be honest - not every episode is a home run. It all comes down to personal preference. I put a ton of effort in to my own podcast, but I would NEVER expect someone to listen to every episode. You’d have to be insane (disclaimer - I thank the insane people for listening).
I have different reasons to listen to them and I’ll provide my own brief description of why I listen. The photos will have the links to Spotify for each show. If you like Apple Podcasts, then you’re on your own.
The Top Podcast you should be listening to
I started the podcast after I retired at the age of 49. I was just a normal person with a normal job who managed to figure out investing in the right stocks can help me live a very good life. I retired in January of 2020 and proceeded to lose 40% of my portfolio due to Covid. My buddy and I decided we wanted to be smarter and avoid those types of downturns so we developed the 4 hour algorithm in Trendspider to help prevent those big losses. I use those technical strategies to manage my portfolio while making sure to have a solid fundamental look using Seeking Alpha.
I think my podcast gives you a great daily look at macro economics and the direction of the market while giving you insight in to the specific stocks I look at. The show is my morning preparation in managing my personal portfolio while having some fun.
HIGHLIGHT: It’s the only daily podcasts that will mention specific stocks since it’s really just a look at my own research using my tools and I share everything.
The number 1 comment I get from listeners “You’ve taught me so much”.
Podcasts I have alerts on for new episodes
1. All - In
I am so not a fan of Chamath based on his grifting people with SPACS during the Covid market and his overall arrogance about life. With that though - I think he’s incredibly intelligent and I like to listen to this whole group. It’s a group of best friends who have different political views (and I hate the political commentary because it goes on too long), but overall it’s usually a very thought filled discussion. The one I listen to the most is Friedberg because he brings a very scientific approach to everything. They do talk about markets and stocks, but it’s not in a way like “you should buy this”. It’s very much ultra wealthy people talking and very much like having a microphone in a board meeting. This is usually my weekend listen when I do my daily walk.
HIGHLIGHT: Macro view of everything as told by Billionaires who are friends
2. The Compound and Friends
I listen mainly to the Friday show. I know they have a YouTube live every now and then, but the entire schedule of shows sometimes is overwhelming. Josh Brown and Michael Batnick are just great together and have guests on that bring such a great macro level view while some do dive in to specific stocks. This is usually my Friday listen when I do my daily walk.
HIGHLIGHT: Macro view of just the stock market with fantastic insight
3. Animal Spirits Podcast
This again is Michael Batnick, but it includes Ben Carlson who many of you may know as the author of the “Bob” story. Bob is the guy who has the worst market timing in the world only buying at the peak of markets before major drawdowns and yet he still winds up very wealthy in retirement. They have episodes every few days and they really do a great job of going in to details about the market. I would say the focus of the show is “buy and hold index” as both Ben and Michael I believe think that’s the best way to wealth for most people, but they bring up such great charts.
HIGHLIGHT: Macro view of the stock market with great tips and tricks
4. Rich Habits Podcast
Austin and Robert go over VERY relevant lifestyle habits of people who either are or on their way to being wealthy. Austin’s voice sounds like a warm blanket on a cold day and Robert is absolutely fantastic with his insights as a guy who is around my age. Robert has far more entrepreneurial experience and most likely wealth than I do, but the 2 of them together present things that are complex in an easy to understand format that’s easy to incorporate in to life. The episode with one of my favorite investors Chris Camillo was AMAZING and I learned in one of the most recent episodes that the “wash sale” rule for stocks and ETF’s, doesn’t apply to crypto. They really do a great job and this should be on anyone’s list no matter if you’re rich or want to be.
HIGHLIGHT: Great lifestyle of managing your money and investments
Others I listen to regularly
1. RiskReversal Pod
This is Dan Nathan and Guy Adami. Whenever I want to hear the bearish view of most of the stocks I own, I tune in here. These guys always seem to be down on the Mag 7 stocks and overall have a very bearish sentiment. But they give a GREAT viewpoint with facts, data and always offer great insight in to their thoughts. I’ve always been someone who values both sides of a debate and the market is absolutely a debate. Why?
Because when you buy a stock or ETF, the person selling says “this stock is worth selling here”. And conversely, when you sell, the other party is saying “what a great value, why is this person selling”.
That’s why I like to have both sides of the coin and this podcast gives it to me
HIGHLIGHT: Great stock specific insight, but mainly bearish takes
2. Investing Experts by Seeking Alpha
I was a guest on this podcast last year and enjoyed it. I find myself tuning in every now and then to this one to hear what others say about the market, specific industries or sectors and overall they do a great job of presenting a compliment to the Seeking Alpha website. I don’t listen to the Morning Breakfast podcast of theirs, but it’s mainly because I read the website so much that Morning Breakfast just seems redundant and I’m usually listening in the afternoons.
HIGHLIGHT: Listening to different people each time give different views
3. BG2Pod with Brad Gerstner and Bill Gurley
These guys are just legends. Give one episode a listen and you’ll instantly know why. They just don’t record enough episodes.
HIGHLIGHT: I’ve always been a fan of Brad Gerstner and his investing style with the elevator pitches for companies they invest in.
Other ones I listen to regularly
Your Money Guide on the Side
If you don’t know Tyler from his social media (mainly instagram), he’s fantastic with his short clips of smart tips on finance. He just started his podcast, but I’ve enjoyed listening. (Hopefully I’ll be a guest someday)
My First Million
Shaan and Sam are great. Timeless stories of entrepreneurs starting businesses and even some episodes they literally PRINT you business ideas.
Moneywise
Honestly I haven’t listened to as many episodes as I want to of this one. Sam does a great job of bringing in high net worth guests who talk about how they made their money, how they live their life and it’s VERY transparent.
Hard Fork
Hard Fork is great for some tech news. I usually will look at the title of the episode and then listen, but they do a great job of just bringing up some of the weekly tech news and insights with some real life use cases that I’ve found.
Others??? I’m sure I missed some great ones
Those are my business podcasts, but others I listen to are:
I am sure I missed some great podcasts so if you have a favorite, leave it in the comments.
